The Trumbull County Board of Developmental Disabilities operates the Fairhaven School in Niles. Fairhaven School is a vital program of the local community striving to meet the goal of the TCBDD to provide choices, opportunities, and resources that enable children and adults with developmental disabilities to fully reach their potential. The school provides educational programming to address fundamental and functional skills in accordance with the Ohio Academic Content Standards Extended.
The staff at Fairhaven School is committed to providing quality education and experiences to all students in attendance. Students are encouraged to make significant gains to grow in developmental, academic, and personal skills to improve their self-confidence and well-being.
All students become Fairhaven Bulldogs through referral from their local school districts in conjunction with parent input and requests. Fairhaven School serves students between the ages of 5 years to 21 (Option 23). All students are serviced through their individualized education programs as determined appropriate by each student’s needs.
Programming that may be a part of student academic programming includes:
Speech and language therapy
Physical therapy
Occupational therapy
Vision and mobility therapy
Adapted Physical Education
Swimming
Class field trips
Assistive technology
Nursing services
Transportation
Transition services (age 14)
Additional activities and opportunities offered to students are:
Through the Special Olympics Program the following activities are offered: basketball, track, cheerleading, bowling, swim team and golf.
